If you are looking for information about parakeets you came on the right place. This blog of mine is all about breeding parakeets and caring for them. In my little knowledge and experience in keeping parakeets for almost 10 years I have lot of things that I really treasured in my mind. Light green is my first pair of parakeets I bought in my favorite pet store near in our house. I am much exited because that is my first time to kept birds. My entire pets are dogs. I have 1 female pit-bull fighter, 1 male pit-bull show type. I have also 2 baby Dalmatians and 1 pair of terriers. I loved dog breeding… if you have asthma, dog and birds can cause asthma. Feathered animals can trigger asthma like me I have asthma but if you know how to deal and to avoid its ok!

Ok! Back to breeding parakeets I was carried away… breeding parakeets for beginners is just a piece of cake to you (Beginners) but commitment and responsibilities are one of the requirements in breeding or keeping parakeets. I remember when I was having troubled in my first pair of parakeets; my female parakeets have a whitish colored foot. I am very sure that this is all natural to them but suddenly I found out that she has a foot disease or fungal infection. I rushed to a near veterinarian after she been checked up and diagnose her disease the veterinarian gave me a prescription and I went to the nearest pharmacy. After that we go home and treated my parakeets after one day she seems alright and having a signs of activeness. Thanks for the veterinarian and also the medicines.

Breeding and keeping birds are enjoyable hobby. If you are deciding to keep a bird in your house or in your backyard make sure you have plenty of time to them to keep them secure and healthy. You’re birds health shows up your personality and how good you are.

If you are beginners, parakeets are the best bird to keep. They are less expensive, from the bird to their nesting materials, they cages, they food utensils and their foods.

Parakeets are easy to handle and care, caring for them is very simple. You have to know first the anatomy of the birds so you can learn the system of their stomach. Knowing the right food to give the, the right caring for them and the time you have to spent with them not only to be entertain you also them. They need some one to talk too like humans. If they are no one else to talk too they become bored and sad. They also need to play and to exercise. There are many things you have to consider in breeding parakeets. You have to learn and know about them. First, bear in your mind, parakeets are dependent to their owner. The Owner must take all the risks and responsibilities on how to take care of parakeets. The Owner should have little knowledge or little background in the field that they are about to move in. the Owner should have time and plenty of energy to take regular visit and regular cleaning all the area and all the things that parakeets are using and even the food their eating. Food must and always clean and fresh. Drinking water needs to replace everyday to make sure no bacteria are living and to avoid diseases. Cages must clean all the time and even the nest boxes, wooden perch, food utensils.

In parakeets breeding you are enjoying and in the same time you can earn money by selling the parakeets babies.

There are countries and breeders are keeping parakeets and breeding them to make money. Keeping birds are one of their sources of income to support their family and to raise their children, like me, first I kept the birds for fun and hobby but I decided to keep and breed them for profit, now, I have almost 200 pairs in my backyards and still growing. Many people came to me and keep asking me how to breed parakeets. Well I tell them all the knowledge and experience that I know to encourage them to keep parakeets and to love them as a member of the family.

ANATOMY OF THE PARAKEETS

BEAK
The Beak is an outer anatomical formation of Parakeets. The Beak is used for eating and for grooming, manipulating objects, killing prey, probing for food, courtship and feeding young. Used for pecking, grooming and for eating food; A related formation forming the jaws. The Beak is hard projection on the front of the bird’s mouth. A pointed structure or formation. The Beak is a rigid structure or formation in front of the face of the bird.

CERE
The Cere is a fleshy, waxy covering at the base of the upper beak of some birds. The cere (from the Latin cera: wax) or operculum is a soft, fleshy bulge found on the beaks of certain birds. The Cere is a fleshy area above the beak where the nostrils of most birds are located. The cere is a wax like membrane at the base of the upper beak in certain birds, such as parrots, budgies, parakeets and lorikeets through which the nostrils open. In the case of Parakeets, you can determine the Gender of Your Parakeets by looking up the Cere.

NOSTRILS
The nostril is the nasal cavity opens into the upper jaw. The paired opening in the nose where air passes is called Nostrils. As in humans, birds have paired external openings to their respiratory systems known as nostrils (or nares). Nostril is either of the two orifices to be found on the nose (or on the beak of a bird); it is used as a passage for air and other gases to travel the nasal passages. A nostril (or naris, pl. nares) is one of the two channels of the nose, from the point where they bifurcate to the external opening.

FOREHEAD
The part of the face above the eyes is called Forehead.

EYES
Eyes are organs that detect light, and send signals along the optic nerve to the visual and other areas of the brain. Complex optical systems with resolving power have come in ten fundamentally different forms, and 96% of animal species possess a complex optical system. In Parakeets they can distinguish if they are young or mature.

EAR
The ear is the organ that detects sound. It not only acts as a receiver for sound, but plays a major role in the sense of balance and body position. The ear is the sense organ for hearing and equilibrium.

NAPE
The back side of the neck is called Nape. A bird's nape consists of the feathers on the back of its neck, usually extending from its shoulders to the back of its skull.

BACK
The part of the body between the neck and legs on the opposite side to the stomach and chest is called back.

RUMP
In the variety of the lower back Parakeets have a so called uropygial gland or preening gland. This gland supplies the oily stuff were the birds need for protecting their plumage against dust and water. While preening, budgies apply this stuff to every feather nearly each day.In order to be able to survive in their natural habitat, Parakeets and most other birds need a water rejecting plumage. During preening, they nibble on their uropygial gland, get some oil into their beaks and then put it on the feathers with the help of their tongues.

VENT
An opening through which gases, especially air, can pass; A hole for the escape of gas or air is called vent. Parakeets possess a single hole where the rests of the digested foodstuff and the urine come out. It is also this part of their body that is highly important in reproduction. Male budgies emit their sperm through the cloaca, female ones receive it through theirs, and later on they lay their eggs through the vent. The crissum is the part around the cloacal opening. One can find it in front of the undertail coverts.

LEG
A leg is a limb on a living thing's body that supports the rest of the birds above the ground between the ankle and the hip and is used for.

BREAST
Breast is the lower part of the avian body between the throat and the belly. Birds that are overweighed can be recognized by their big breast. It is almost impossible to feel their sternum which is completely covered by adipose tissue.

CROP
A crop (or croup) is a thin-walled expanded portion of the alimentary tract used for the storage of food prior to digestion that is found in many animals, including gastropods, earthworms, leeches, insects, and birds. Besides the stomach, the digestive system of budgies includes an additional component that is characteristic for birds. It is a bag-like object at the back of the esophagus. Since budgies have no teeth, their food arrives as a whole (grains and seeds) or in rough pieces (fresh food such as vegetables or fruit) in the crop. The food is pre-digested and stored there. It is very important in breeding parakeets especially when they have chicks.

THROAT
The passage to the stomach and lungs; in the front part of the neck below the chin and above the collarbone in anatomy, the throat is the anterior part of the neck, in front of the vertebral column. It consists of the pharynx and larynx. An important feature of the throat is the epiglottis, a flap which separates the esophagus from the trachea and prevents inhalation of food or drink.

Gender of Your Parakeets

>> Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Parakeet breeding is easy but determining them weather they are male or female is quit hard. Young birds are hard to determine weather a male or female. Is your parakeets a male or a female? Knowing your pet parakeet’s gender is difficult if they are young. Determining the gender of a young parakeet can be very hard. On the other hand, once the parakeet has reached sexual maturity at the age of six months to a year there are a little ways to determine parakeet gender quite correctly.
Look at your parakeets cere. The cere is the fleshy band at the top of their beak. The mature male parakeets have blue or purple cere while the female parakeets have pinkish, off white or brown.
Mature male parakeets are physically active and aggressive. Female are usually nibble and try to build her nest. When mature parakeets have reached maturity, regularly checks their nest boxes for their eggs. If nest boxes have eggs you have a female parakeet…
If you are not satisfied try to bring your bird to a Veterinarian and ask for DNA testing to make sure your birds gender.

Breeding Parakeets

>> Tuesday, July 21, 2009

If you are looking for a pet and you are a bird lover, breeding parakeets is the best choice for you. They are good companion. They are easy to breed. Parakeet is one of the most popular and commonly pet birds. They are also called keets. Some country called them budgies or budgerigars.

Breeding Parakeets is pretty simple. You have to understand and take good care of them like a baby. The health of your pet budgies depends on your hands. You better give them a fresh and healthy food. They also need a variety of foods and clean and sanitized cages.Budgies can breed from parent to baby or vice versa, medical authorities called cross breeding. Breeding parakeets is enjoying and in the same time you can earn money by selling them.

Parakeets can live and breed in the wild and even in the cages. In the wild they do not bring their nesting materials instead they lay their egg directly into hard surface like hole in the tree or under the rocks in the forest. Parakeets are colony breeders. They can nest very close together, having there personal place.

There are ways and techniques in breeding Parakeets. Breeders discover on how to breed budgies effective and accurate. Individual pairing are one of the best way on how to breed ParakeetsBreeding Parakeets is easy… there are many ways how to breed parakeets. You can breed them in large aviary (colony) or individual pair. In my experience I preferred to breed in individual pair, so they can mate freely.

If you are purchasing parakeets, watch closely to the bird make sure that they not suffering any respiration problems, eye and nasal discharges, foot and beak fungal. Some pet store sells ill birds and old. Parakeets are easy to determine.

Parakeet has proper nesting and nutritional requirements. There are things you need to buy when you are breeding parakeets. You need still cages, nesting box, brooder and bedding. If all the equipment is ready and you place it in a proper place, they begin to mate. I would sometime put a shredded wood into each box and observe the pair of birds busily take away each one.
